One of Antigua’s best known boutique resorts, the Blue Waters Hotel, this week launched sales of eight oceanfront villas--a sign that gun-shy Caribbean developers may be ready to test the market again.
The "Blue Waters Residences" are being sold under a buy-to-let plan. Owners will be able to use the property for up to two months a year (one month in high season, one month in low season). The resort will rent out the properties for the rest of the year.
Prices range from $500,000 to $1.05 million.
New project announcements in the Caribbean are rare these days, as the industry looks to complete a wave of projects started before the downturn.
The 27-year-old Blue Waters sits on a cove on the north coats of Antigua, about a 20 minute drive from the international airport. The British colonial-style resort routinely attracts name guests from the U.K., and often wins the vague travel awards that pop up in the lobbies of hotels in the region.
The resort sold 24 villas in 2007, its first foray into the residential market.
