An arrest warrant was issued in the U.S. Virgin Islands last week for missing real estate agent Rosemary Sauter-Frett, the owner of the RE/MAX Dream Properties franchise in St. Thomas.
Although it is unclear what charges are pending against Sauter-Frett, clients are trying to recover millions of dollars million in deposits, according to the St. Thomas Source. “Tens of thousands of dollars drawn” on Sauter-Frett’s accounts had bounced in recent weeks, local agents told authorities.
Sauter-Frett is the former president of the St. Thomas Board of Realtors, which issued a statement last week warning people not to make deposits in her accounts. A frequent guest on a local radio show, she owned other businesses on the island and served as president of the Virgin Islands Territorial Association of Realtors and was a director with the National Association of Realtors, according to her Web site.
Sauter-Frett hasn’t been seen in several days, according to reports. Sauter-Frett’s office, which was sealed by police, “appears to have been left abandoned,” the attorney general’s office said in a statement.
In December, Sauter-Frett testified against two “high level” police officers, who were later convicted of extortion and bribery, the Associated Press reports. The officers said Sauter-Frett was involved in a murder-for-hire plot against her husband, but the claim was never investigated and he was never charged, according to the wire service.
